Description
Polishing stone is a sequence, not a task. Each pad removes the scratch pattern left by the one before it, and the shine at the end is simply the point at which the scratches are too fine for the eye to resolve. Skip a step and you will still be looking at the previous grit’s marks under the gloss — no amount of work at the fine end will hide them.
Seven steps, in order, no shortcuts
The set runs seven grits from a coarse cutting pad through to a fine finishing pad. Work each one over the whole surface until the previous scratch pattern has gone, then move up. Change your direction of travel by ninety degrees at each step — the moment you can no longer see marks running the other way, that step is finished. It is the only reliable way to check your own work.
Wet use, on stone and concrete
These are wet pads. Water lubricates the resin, carries the slurry off the surface and keeps the pad from burning — a dry wet-pad glazes and stops cutting almost immediately. Suited to concrete, granite, marble and stone: countertop edges and seams, window sills, honed concrete, and repairs where a patched area has to be brought back to match.
