A blade that will not fit the spindle, a saw with no water supply, a case that let two blades knock together in the truck — none of these are expensive problems, but all of them cost a morning. Arbor Bushings and Adapters

Blades and machines do not share one standard, so reducer bushings are what let a single blade run on more than one saw. Handheld cutters and grinders commonly use 7/8″ or 5/8″ arbors, high-speed and walk-behind saws take 1″ or 20mm, and stone bridge saws are often 1″ or 50mm. A bushing set covers the usual combinations for a few dollars and saves buying duplicate blades. One rule that is not negotiable: a bushing changes the bore, never the speed rating. The maximum RPM stamped on the blade must still be at or above the saw’s rated speed.

Water Supply and Dust Control

Wet cutting doubles or triples blade life and is the main engineering control for respirable silica, but only if water actually reaches the cut. A pressurised water bottle gives a handheld saw a proper feed where no site supply exists, which is often the difference between a compliant cut and a dry one. Keep the flow steady rather than intermittent — a blade that is alternately cooled and overheated suffers more than one run consistently dry. For work where water is not an option, dust extraction is the alternative route into OSHA Table 1.

Storage and Transport

Diamond blades are precision steel discs and they behave like it. A warped core pulls a cut off line no matter how good the segments are, and warping usually comes from blades leaning under their own weight or rattling loose in a truck bed. A blade storage case keeps them flat, dry and separated, protects segments from knocking against each other, and keeps the specification readable so operators grab the right blade rather than the nearest one.

Personal Protective Equipment

Concrete cutting produces noise, flying debris and silica dust simultaneously. A contractor safety kit covering gloves, eye protection and respiratory protection is the baseline, and respiratory protection remains necessary even with engineering controls on many tasks. Cut-resistant gloves matter more than most operators expect: injuries on cutting sites come more often from handling blades and slurry-covered material than from the saw itself.

Machine Service Parts

Saws are consumable in their own way. Belts, filters, spindle washers and starter components wear on a predictable schedule, and a service kit held on the shelf turns a two-day breakdown into a twenty-minute repair. This is worth doing for any machine that a crew depends on daily, and it is far cheaper than hiring a replacement at short notice.
