Tile, Masonry and Dust-Control Saws
This is the precision end of concrete cutting: table-mounted saws that produce clean, square, chip-free cuts in tile, porcelain, brick, block and paver. Wet Saws or Dust-Control Saws
Both solve the same problem in opposite ways. A wet tile saw runs the blade through a water bath, which cools the rim, lifts the dust away as slurry and gives the best possible edge on porcelain and finished stone. The trade-off is water and slurry on site. A dust-control saw such as the iQ line captures the dust at the blade through an integrated vacuum system, which lets crews cut brick, block and paver inside occupied buildings and on finished floors with no water at all. For tile and stone finish work, wet still gives the better edge. For masonry indoors, dust control is usually the only practical option.
Getting Chip-Free Cuts
A clean edge in porcelain comes down to three things. Use a continuous-rim blade rather than a segmented one — the gullets in a segmented blade are exactly what chip a glazed edge. Feed slowly and let the blade do the work, particularly on the last inch where the material is unsupported and most likely to break out. And keep the tile flat and fully supported on the table throughout the cut. Rushing the exit is the single most common cause of a chipped corner on an otherwise good cut.
Cutting Brick, Block and Paver
Masonry is more forgiving than tile and the priorities change. Here you want speed and the ability to handle a heavy, irregular unit rather than a flawless edge. A segmented or turbo rim cuts faster through block and paver, and the table needs to be large and stable enough to carry the unit squarely. Hardscape work in particular benefits from a dust-control machine, because paver cutting is usually done on site and often close to finished surfaces where slurry would be a real problem.
Silica and Indoor Work
Cutting tile, brick and block dry generates respirable crystalline silica in significant quantities, and tile saws are frequently used indoors where there is nowhere for that dust to go. Both routes are recognized engineering controls under OSHA Table 1: integrated water on a wet saw, or an integrated dust-collection system on a machine designed for it. What is not acceptable is running a dry cut on a saw with neither. Check the filters and empty the collection bin regularly, since a saturated filter drops extraction efficiency quickly.
