Description
A 9″ cordless cutter is a different tool from a 14″ machine, and buying one expecting the other is the usual mistake. This is a precision and access tool: lighter, easier to control one-handed at height or in a confined space, and quick enough to pick up for a single cut without a second thought.
The work it does best
- Cutting rebar, threaded rod, angle and pipe on site.
- Opening block and brick for services during fit-out.
- Trimming pavers, tile and cement board on finishing work.
- Shallow concrete cuts for chases and box openings.
Depth is the limiting factor
No diamond blade should be buried much past a third of its own diameter, which puts a 9″ wheel at around three inches. Enough for a block wall, a screed or a services chase; nowhere near enough for a structural slab. Full-depth concrete belongs on a larger machine — see walk-behind saws.
Being cordless and 36V, it goes where fumes and cords are unwelcome. For dry cutting concrete or masonry indoors you still need dust control — see OSHA Table 1 — and a pressurised water bottle is the simplest way to get it.
