There are sites a gas cutter simply cannot go: an occupied hospital corridor, a food plant, a basement plant room, an underground car park with no forced ventilation. Exhaust fumes are the constraint, and no amount of extraction makes a two-stroke acceptable in an enclosed occupied space. That is the gap a battery cutter fills.
Where a battery cutter earns its cost
Beyond the emissions question, three things change on site. Noise drops far enough that permits and neighbor complaints become manageable on night work. Vibration and fatigue drop over a shift of intermittent cutting. And a machine with no idle, no choke and no pull start is instantly ready — for the many jobs that consist of twenty short cuts spread over a day, that alone changes the working pattern.
What to plan for
Battery machines are managed differently from gas ones. Work out your duty cycle honestly: batteries and a charging strategy are part of the purchase, not an accessory to it. For continuous heavy cutting all day, gas or a walk-behind remains the more practical answer.
